Amerikanischer Autor Morton Rhue stellt am Hainberg-Gymnasium sein neuestes Buch vor

Am 27. September 2013 fand im Hainberg-Gymnasium im Rahmen der Reihe „Literatur macht Schule“, die vom Literarischen Zentrum Göttingen veranstaltet wird, eine Lesung des Autors Todd Strasser alias Morton Rhue statt, der seinen neuen Roman „No Place no Home“  vorstellte. 

Während es eine typische Reaktion vieler Schüler ist, dass sie zunächst mit dem Namen nichts verbinden können, horchen dagegen sofort  viele auf, wenn man erklärt, dass Morton Rhue „The Wave“ („Die Welle“) geschrieben hat, wohl in Deutschland sein bekanntester Roman. 

 Marit Borcherding, die Projektleiterin der Reihe „Literatur macht Schule“, hat es geschafft, diesen erfolgreichen Autor nach Göttingen zu holen, sodass ca. 150 Schüler (auch Klassen vom MPG und THG) in der Aula unserer Schule eine – wie die Äußerungen der Schüler zeigen – nicht nur interessante und gut verständliche, sondern vor allem auch unterhaltsame Lesung erleben konnten. 

Hier Auszüge aus den Schülerkommentaren (eine Klasse schrieb ihre Kommentare auf Englisch, leider waren nicht immer  Namen dabei): 

„[…]The book is about Dan and his family who lose their house and finally end up living in Dignityville, a place where people just live in tents because they don’t own anything. Well, I didn’t really like this story, because I am not interested in this topic. But it was a great experience to get to know Morton Rhue and learn something about him and his home. I mean he is a famous author and you don’t get the chance to see persons like him every day.” (Timon)

“ The lecture of the book “No Place, no Home” by the American author Morton Rhue was good. At the beginning he talked about his life and how he grew up. That was very interesting, because you could learn something about the people who lived at  the time when America was afraid of being attacked by a nuclear bomb. Then he talked about his other books and about his work as an author. That was funny because he showed pictures of himself during his working process. The book is a good book for students or teenagers in general because the protagonist is a teenager. The story is very real because in America everyone can end up on the street.” (Friederike T.)

„The author of the book „No Place no Home“ is a 63-year-old American who was quite funny . He didn’t just read from his latest book, but also talked about why he chose homeless people  as his main topic. He told us about his work as an author and the process of writing a book. […] It was enjoyable to listen to him and easy to understand.” (Leni G.)

“ I liked the lecture pretty much. Morton Rhue was very nice. He presented his book very well and I also liked the presentation in the background. I also liked the introduction and he was pretty funny too. His introduction was great and his self-irony was nice too.”

“My impression of the book is that it is a very exciting story about the situation of the people who lose their homes and work and have to live in “Dignityville”. I liked the lecture very much because the topic of the novel is very interesting. Morton Rhue presented this book so well that I decided to read it. I also enjoyed that he talked about bullying at schools and his power point presentation was very good too.” (Lisa)

„ Mir hat die Lesung sehr gut gefallen. Der Autor hat so gesprochen, dass ich (fast) alles gut verstehen konnte. Inhaltlich war die Lesung interessant und vor allem lustig. Die Einblicke in das Leben des Autors habe ich nicht erwartet und war positiv überrascht.“

„Ich fand die Präsentation bzw. die Lesung sehr informativ. Etwas verwundert war ich, als ich erfuhr, dass hauptsächlich die Romane, in denen  es um Gewalt geht, in Deutschland publiziert wurden. Dass er zwei Namen nutzte, um zwei Bücher zeitgleich zu veröffentlichen, war auch recht amüsant. Sein Auftritt war sehr humorvoll und kurzweilig“ (Felix M.)

„ Ich fand die Lesung von Morton Rhue sehr gut. Mir hat es gefallen, da ich alles verstanden habe und er es sehr lebendig und unkompliziert vorgetragen hat. So eine Veranstaltung zu wiederholen, würde ich begrüßen. Ich habe viele zusätzliche Information zum Buch und zum Autor erhalten. Er kam mir sehr sympathisch herüber und ich habe Lust „Moby Dick Space“ (das Buch, an dem er gerade schreibt) zu lesen. 

Und als Lehrerin kann ich nur sagen, dass ich selten eine Veranstaltung begleitet habe, die auf so viel positive Resonanz gestoßen ist. Diese Auszüge aus über 50 Schüleräußerungen sind wirklich stellverstretend, sodass wir  uns Mühe geben werden, weitere Veranstaltungen wie diese an unsere Schule zu holen.
